The public questioned the management capability of the Taiwanese authorities for the chaos.

Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) commenced its three-day annual maintenance project on the southern runway on March 3. However, the closure of the runway due to the maintenance project has affected flight operations at the airport, and widespread flight delays started to occur.

With more and more affected passengers expressing their grievances online, the Taiwanese authorities have come under significant pressure. Under this pressure, Minister of Transportation Wang Guocai, in an interview on the morning of March 4, stated that the initially scheduled closure of the southern runway until 16:00 on March 5 would end early at midnight on March 4 due to significant disruptions.

As Taiwan's international gateway, Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) has shown signs of overload even before the pandemic. With the sharp increase in the number of inbound and outbound passengers after the pandemic's reopening, an unexpected flight delay due to annual maintenance highlights the urgency and importance of the expansion and renovation projects at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).
