Refusal of permission for construction activities near the airport is making several local residents unhappy.
South India’s Kozhikode Airport has been recommended to get a runway extension. But for many residents in the vicinity, this means severe restrictions on any kind of construction activity around the airport. While the runway is yet to be extended, several residents are voicing their opinions against the project.
A team investigating the 2020 Air India Express crash recently recommended extra safety measures for the tabletop runway at Kozhikode Airport. Tabletop runways are constructed by chopping off the top of a peak and forming it into a plateau or carving out the side of a mountain.
But for hundreds of families living close to the airport, particularly those living on the eastern side, where the runway ends, the decision impacts their future home constructions.
