The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) has announced that it has earned a patent for a sound imaging device that has been used to support the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) The sound imaging technology utilizes machine learning to monitor sound and identify what the sound is caused by across the Minneapolis airport and common flight paths.

The noise classification system utilizes almost 40 different sound-monitoring devices. These devices are spread across the Minneapolis airport and widely used flight routes outside the airport. The devices pick up sounds from these areas and record them.
