The proposal to expand Luton Airport has taken another step forward as the council’s overview and scrutiny board has agreed to adopt London Luton Airport Limited’s (LLAL) master plan.

The master plan details LLAL’s intention to increase the airport’s annual passengers from 18M to 19M by 2024 in its first phase. A second phase to increase capacity to 32M, including the creation of a new terminal, is still in the pipeline for the future.

The master plan explains that LLAL has commissioned reports into the expansion’s effect on noise, air quality, waste, energy, ecology, ground water and landscape. The organisation has promised to take measures to mitigate the changes where necessary.
