Sloane Helicopters of the vital rotary wing link to the Isles of Scilly from Penzance Heliport in West Cornwall have recently signed off on a new and innovative marketing and accessibility friendly VR tour, created by BAG member and winners of NCE Future of Airports competitions 2019, Ocean 3D Ltd.

“As we are based just a few hundred metres from the heliport, we approached Sloane Helicopters with an offer to showcase their new heliport and AW139 service whilst making the experience more engaging, accessible and inclusive.” Says Chris Wood, Director.

“We love where we live and the heliport occupies a superb spot at the head of Mounts Bay, so we devised an innovative but easy to use interface for customers to experience this too. Aerial work was carried out by Drone Work South West with the addition of some clever coding, site visitors arrive via a ‘tiny world’ leading into an aerial view above the heliport looking out to sea. Visitors can pan and zoom in towards the terminal building or AW139 Helicopter. A single click enables the viewer to explore the AW139 in VR (no headset required) or the terminal building with colour coded interaction points within the tours offering flight advice, multimedia and even a link to mindfulness apps and music for those who find the thought of flying unsettling or, perhaps, have just had a challenging day.”

Ocean 3D inform us they have recently been approached to create a project for a US airport which will be live by 2021.
