The airports are likely to miss the year-end deadline to install the machines.
Body scanners at Indian airports might not arrive this year, as the matter seems to be entangled in long bureaucratic processes. For a few years now, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been pushing to install these scanners at several airports across the country to replace existing door frame metal detectors and hand-held scanners. But several rounds of back and forth between different departments have delayed their arrival.
Indian Airports might not see the proposed body scanners by the end of this year, as planned initially. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the AAI will issue a tender soon, but there has been no financial approval from the department of investment and public investment as yet.
