India's aviation ministry wants to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.

Future auctions to operate airports in India could come with a mandatory condition to use renewable energy sources. The Indian government is keen on reducing emissions in the aviation sector, with some airports already running on green energy completely.

As airports in the country are increasingly being operated through a public-private partnership, green energy will likely feature in the bidding process.

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation is keen to have more than 90 carbon-neutral airports by 2024. The country presently has more than 140 airports, and that number is set to rise to 220 in the next five years. As India develops new aviation infrastructure, it is also being mindful of keeping the industry as green as possible.
