Today marks the launch of Heathrow's first planning consultation on our expansion project which will run until 11.55pm on the 28 March 2018.

There will be two parts to the consultation. The first relates to the physical changes on the ground needed to build a new north-west runway and operate an expanded airport. The second relates to potential principles we could apply when designing the new airspace required for an expanded airport. At this early stage, we are not consulting on future flight path options.

Just like other major UK infrastructure projects before us, we have embarked on a process of looking at every detail of our plans and how we can optimise them, to provide the best outcomes for passengers, airlines, our local community, and all regions and nations around the UK.

Heathrow has been developing proposals for how the expanded airport might look, how it might operate, and how we might best reduce the potential effects, including proposals for compensation and noise insulation.

This consultation gives communities a chance to help shape our plans by having a say on the design options we're developing for an expanded Heathrow, and the principles that will shape the flight paths of the future. We welcome all feedback in order to help shape these plans.

The consultation runs for 10-weeks and includes events at venues listed on www.heathrow.consultation.com
