The airport is now well on its way to reaching pre-pandemic passenger numbers.

In signs of a strong recovery from the pandemic, a total of 11.2 million passengers traveled through Hamburg Airport (HAM) in 2022. This was more than double the number seen in 2021 (5.3 million), although the figures are still 36% down on the airport’s pre-pandemic levels of 17.3 million passengers.

2022 saw a total of 91,760 aircraft movements at Hamburg Airport, compared to 69,500 in 2021 and 155,200 in 2019.

The upturn in traffic in 2022 began at Easter and continued throughout the summer – passenger numbers rose from 682,000 in March to 1.22 million in July. In October, a record 1.23 million passengers passed through the airport, making it the strongest month since the start of the pandemic.
