The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) invites the aviation industry and the public to comment on a planned update to guidance for evaluating noise and land use around airports.
The agency will consider comments received as it prepares to update the Noise Control and Compatibility Planning for Airports advisory circular, AC 150/5020-1. The advisory circular provides airport sponsors guidance on how to conduct an airport noise and land use compatibility study to meet the requirements of Federal Aviation Regulation, Part 150. The study, commonly called a Part 150 study, provides a structured process to evaluate the compatibility of property surrounding airports with airport noise and develop mitigation measures.
Sponsors who participate in the Part 150 process may be eligible to apply for Airport Improvement Program grant funding to mitigate noise impacts. Conducting a Part 150 study is voluntary, but once an airport sponsor chooses to participate, it must comply with statutory, regulatory and Airport Improvement Program grant assurances.
The public may review the document and submit comments until February 25, 2022.
