Plans to expand Southampton Airport’s runway have been dealt a blow, after a local campaigner group secured a court hearing over the decision to greenlight the development.
Airport eXpansion Opposition Southampton (Axo Southampton) has been granted a hearing in the High Court over plans to extend the runway by 164 metres. It is challenging Eastleigh Borough Council decision to approve the expansion in April over concerns that it will lead to an increase in noise, traffic and pollution. The plans had also included an extension to the airport car park.
