A consortium made up of Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC), Indonesia’s state-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura 1 (AP1) and local construction firm PT Wijaya Karya Tbk (WIKA) has won a tender to develop and operate Hang Nadim International Airport on Batam Island, Indonesia. The USD 531-million contract will see the consortium remodel the existing passenger terminal and construct a second terminal by 2024. IIAC will also operate the airport for 25 years. In a statement from Angkasa Pura Airports, it said the three companies will take on specific roles as part of the consortium: Angkasa Pura Airports will be responsible for general operation and commercial management, IIAC will be responsible for airport development, and WIKA will be responsible for airport infrastructure management. Commenting on the consortium’s win, Faik Fahmi, managing director of Angkasa Pura Airports, said, “The victory of the Angkasa Pura Airports Consortium in [being selected as] the manager of Hang Nadim Airport is an important milestone for the company. This is the first time the company has won a competition among other key airport industrial players, both nationally and globally, to manage potential airports. This is also an acknowledgment of the capability and quality of Angkasa Pura as a trusted airport management company.” In the future, Hang Nadim Airport will be developed to become a ‘wider aviation destination hub’ and logistics and cargo hub in western Indonesia, owing to its location in a strategic free trade zone of the Southeast Asia region.
