Backers of Heathrow Airport’s planned third runway have received a boost today, after the Department for Transport (DfT) announced that it will not carry out a review of the policy statement which underpins the airport’s expansion.

The DfT had been urged to review its Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS) to consider environmental legislation and net zero commitments made since the ANPS was approved in 2018.

However, the DfT has confirmed that it does not think a review is necessary at this time, in an open letter signed by an “authorised signatory on behalf of Secretary of State for Transport”.
