Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter, the first of 2022.

After 2 years of being in and out of lockdown, various restrictions, and a complete change to our way of life, the worst days of the Covid-19 pandemic now seem to be behind us, and we are now returning to a more familiar way of living and working.

The aviation industry has certainly been hit hard, and 2020 was in-fact the worst period in history, as reported by the IATA. However, 2022 has seen a huge upturn in traveller confidence, and passenger numbers have skyrocketed, leading to a resurgence in UK airports, which itself has brought challenges as the airports are left to rebuild and re-staff.

As we head into the Summer, and peak season for airports, we hope that the sector's recovery continues in the same vain and we can look forward to a much more fruitful period.

2022 Exhibitions and Activities

Having been to a much changed Interairports Munich exhibition in 2021, where there was a buzz around the new range of taxiway and runway LED light fixtures that were being demonstrated alongside AGL control and monitoring system, we are once again preparing to dust off our suits and ties and attend many other events this coming year.

Our Sales team will be present at the Airports show in Dubai and will be available to discuss our products and services. Shortly after returning, we will be exhibiting at the 2022 British and Irish Exhibition, where there will be demonstration of the individual lamp control and monitoring system for LED fixtures on show. Along with the World ATM Congress, Passenger terminal expo and FELASA Congress, its going to be a busy summer. With planning also under way for the visit to, and exhibition at, the CANEW and IES conferences in autumn, the team are excited about catching up with all of our customers, friends and fellow industry professionals.

We look forward to welcoming you to these events and meeting up with you all again.

Please feel free to contact us below and  arrange to meet up with one of our team to discuss your requirements.

Instant and sustained success for atg electrical

In our most recent e-newsletter, we introduced atg electrical as our latest venture. The idea behind atg electrical was to offer our services to industries away from the airfield. Our installation team are apprentice trained electricians by trade and with airports suffering due to the pandemic, we were able to utilise their experience elsewhere.

We saw instant success which has been sustained ever since. Through building new relationships and fostering existing relationships, we have successfully completed projects at schools, fire stations, football grounds, and running tracks.

This has not taken our focus away from airfields, which will always remain our core focus and passion. We are now working closely with our colleagues in the aviation market to help plan for a busy summer.

FX Focus Approach Lighting

The final approach and landing of an aircraft is one of the most crucial stages of any flight. Whilst Radio/Navigation aids are frequently provided whereby the pilot has access to information, via instruments to assist him, Aviation Ground Lighting provides additional visual cues from outside the cockpit. These cues should be available both day and night and in varying weather conditions.

The complete Approach Lighting system is made up of several parts, each designed to meet one or more requirements. The extent to which a particular airport is equipped will depend upon its licensing category and the need to continue operations during periods of poor visibility.

The FX range of LED lighting for high intensity requirements, has two different fixtures available dependent on the position within the AGL approach system. Inset fixtures FX850AP are used where the approach system is partially installed in the paved area, that being runway overruns or displaced thresholds. The FX862AP is the elevated equivalent and would be used elsewhere within the approach system.

To provide maximum assistance to a pilot all luminaires are required to be aligned within an agreed tolerance at their respective elevation and azimuth settings. This tolerance is generally accepted to be ±½° for all luminaires.

For more detailed information on these fixtures please refer to the two separate data sheets.

Supporting Rothera Research Centre

One of our key partners is currently supporting British Antarctic Survey with an upgrade of the runway at Rothera Research Centre.

As a long term partner of atg, the customer is well versed in the installation and operation of our equipment, and as such selected us to supply the airfield with CCRs. The airport will now benefit from the latest in technology with our IGBT range of regulator, the Micro 200.

We look forward to seeing the progress of the project in the coming months.
