Air safety investigators have issued three safety recommendations after a passenger jet and private aircraft were involved in a near-miss at Malaga airport.

An inquiry by the Spanish Civil Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Commission (CIAIAC) was launched after a Ryanair 737-800 aircraft carrying 114 people on board took off whilst a private aircraft landed on the same runway at the same time.

Air traffic controllers were found to have issued instructions in different languages, resulting in confusion between the pilots.

Concerns have been raised, with 43 similar incidents being reported at Malaga airport since January 2019 – 13 of them described as “major events”.
