Work is progressing on a major terminal extension at Newcastle International Airport.

Plans for the three‑storey extension were approved by Newcastle City Council’s planning committee in June last year, with the development set to expand the airport’s departure lounge facilities and baggage arrivals area.

After the plans were backed by Newcastle City Council’s planning committee, airport chief executive Nick Jones said the extension would 'significantly enhance the departure lounge, creating more space for food and drink outlets and additional seating to improve the overall passenger experience'.

The international baggage hall is also being expanded, with four baggage belts expected to operate during the summer to help speed up arrivals.

In addition, a new security search area will operate during peak periods, increasing passenger processing capacity by more than 30 per cent compared with 2025...
