International Airlines Group ( IAG) CEO Luis Gallego believes that London Heathrow's planned third runway could be "empty" due to excessive charges to airlines. The cost of developing a third runway at Heathrow is estimated at almost $28 billion, and the cost would likely be passed on to airlines and passengers through higher airport fees.

As reported by The Guardian, Gallego suggested that the airport-imposed price per passenger could double if London Heathrow Airport (LHR) goes through with its plans submitted this week. As it stands, Heathrow charges around $33 per passenger as regulated by the UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Gallego said that "with the current regulatory model, it is going to be very expensive for customers," adding that there is a risk of the new runway being empty as a result...
