Tunisia is advancing a major expansion of Tunis-Carthage International Airport, its primary gateway, with plans to nearly quadruple annual passenger capacity to 18.5 million by 2031 at an estimated cost of 3 billion Tunisian dinars (about $1 billion), the Transport Ministry said in a detailed parliamentary response published last week on March 6, 2026.
The project, budgeted in the 2026 investment plan of the Civil Aviation and Airports Authority (OACA), marks a shift toward modernizing and enlarging the existing facility rather than pursuing a long-discussed relocation or new airport construction in the near term...
