The Department of Transportation announced a new grant program that will open a pot of $1 billion to airports that want to make family- and health-friendly improvements.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said during a Dec. 8 press conference that he was leaving the guidelines intentionally vague, but he suggested airports could get funding for things like making improvements to nursing facilities for breastfeeding mothers, expanding family lanes at security checkpoints or installing exercise equipment in terminals.

He added that he reached out to the CEOs of most major U.S. airlines to encourage them to offer healthier food and beverage options onboard.
