Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) is celebrating an impressive milestone in its 92-year history.

The popular airport handled over 5.6 million passengers in 2025, making it the busiest year since its former location first opened as Speke Airport back in 1933.

Having exceeded the airport’s previous record of just over 5.5 million passengers set 18 years ago in 2007, the airport also documented one of its busiest Decembers in 2025, with many many months breaking previous all-time records.

A spokesperson for LJLA said the continued expansion of services with its three main operators - easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 - in 2025 contributed to its record breaking year.

2025 also saw the installation of new security equipment and the completion of an 18 month multi-million pound programme developing a range of new and upgraded food and beverage areas in the Departure Lounge, as well as the opening of an all expanded Aspire Executive Lounge...
