Portugal's new multi-billion pound airport will revolutionize travel, boosting connectivity and economic growth.

The Portuguese Government has officially selected the Alcochete region, approximately 40 kilometres east of Lisbon, as the new Luis de Camoes Airport site.

This long-awaited decision follows recommendations from an independent technical commission, ending decades of deliberation over the expansion of the capital’s airport infrastructure.

The new airport is projected to be operational by 2034 and will eventually replace the existing Humberto Delgado Airport.

With an estimated investment of up to €9 billion (£7.5 billion), the project will be funded through European Union support, public-private partnerships, and airport tariffs.
