The second phase expansion of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has moved a step closer to reality with Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd (TIAL) inviting tenders for the construction of a new integrated Terminal 2 (T2) and associated buildings worth Rs 2,700 crore as part of a comprehensive airport modernization programme.

The tender marks the formal launch of one of the largest infrastructure projects undertaken at the airport since the operator, Adani Airport Holdings, took over its operations. Besides the new passenger terminal, the project includes development of a new aircraft apron, taxiways, landside infrastructure, utility buildings and cargo-related facilities aimed at significantly enhancing the airport’s passenger and cargo handling capacities.

According to the tender document, construction is scheduled to commence in Nov 2027 and is expected to be completed by July 2030. The project has been planned to create world-class infrastructure capable of meeting the airport’s long-term traffic growth while ensuring uninterrupted flight operations during the construction period...
