Düsseldorf Airport, Germany's fourth-largest air traffic hub after Frankfurt, Munich, and Berlin-Brandenburg, is undergoing a fundamental strategic realignment of its long-term development plan. After years of pursuing capacity expansion and the removal of existing limits on flight movements, the company has now officially revised these plans. In a recent application to the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Transport, the airport has agreed to forego additional takeoffs and landings beyond the current level.

Instead, the management, led by airport CEO Lars Redeligx, is focusing on greater efficiency within the already approved quotas. The plan is to increase hourly flight movements during peak times from 47 to 60, while maintaining the strict cap of 131.000 movements in the busiest half of the year and the night flight ban.
