On January 15, 2025, South Sudan's President, Salva Kiir , dismissed Captain David Subek Dada from his role as Director General of the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA). The decision, part of a broader government reshuffle, was announced through a presidential decree broadcast on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC). John Woja Elinana has been appointed as the new Director General, succeeding Subek Dada.
Reports suggest that the dismissal followed widespread public criticism regarding poor conditions at Juba International Airport, including a viral video showing goats wandering on the runway, disrupting the landing of an Ethiopian Airlines flight, exposed critical flaws in airport management and security. As part of these changes, President Kiir also reconstituted the SSCAA board and introduced a new leadership structure.
