HOK, Hensel Phelps and Alaska Airlines are transforming the travel experience in the North Main Terminal at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), a major redevelopment of the North Main Terminal for Alaska Airlines is addressing these needs.
Led by the airline in close collaboration with a HOK/Hensel Phelps progressive design-build team, the Gateway Project is reimagining the terminal’s check-in, security and baggage claim areas. Phased construction is now underway and scheduled for completion ahead of Seattle serving as a host city for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
The design centers around three principles:
- Inform travelers where they need to go through simple design features and real-time information systems. Improve the flow within the terminal by creating open sightlines, defined paths and clear relationships to future touchpoints such as baggage drop and security;
- Guide travelers to and through the terminal with an intuitive design that emphasizes clear wayfinding and multiple check-in options;
