Mineta San Jose International Airport, the site of numerous security breaches over the past year, will receive $3.4 million in federal funds to boost its perimeter security, Bay Area lawmakers said Monday. The money will allow the airport to raise the fence line from 6 feet to 10 feet, topped by 1 foot of razor wire. The first phase of work will begin on about 8,600 feet of fence at the north and south ends of the airport, said airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes. Officials hope that the improved perimeter will keep out intruders like the 16-year-old boy who in 2014 stowed away in the landing gear of a Hawaiian Airlines jet.
