Hundreds of holidaymakers were left queuing for hours at Lisbon Airport as they waited to show their documents and gain permission to enter the country
Holidaymakers at Lisbon Airport have been hit with severe delays. Reports have been made of people waiting more than two hours just to have their documents checked and be allowed into Portugal.
Portuguese media, including Noticias, have highlighted that the delays on Wednesday were not a one-off situation, as similar hold-ups occurred last week, with some travellers enduring border waits exceeding three hours. The root cause is believed to be a recently implemented passenger control system at the airport.
Warnings had already been issued by the Internal Security System about expected longer wait times. Meanwhile, Faro airport has also seen delays, though officials anticipate these will subside within a week.
