The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s board of commissioners authorized $110 million toward expanding Newark Liberty International Airport’s (EWR) Terminal A, the $2.7 billion facility that opened in 2023.
The 1-million-ft.2 terminal currently has 33 gates. An additional eight gates are now planned.
The newly approved funds include $100 million to finance the construction of two new gates and a new concession area in the southern end of the terminal. The project will grow Terminal A by 250,000 ft.2 with a targeted completion in 2029.
The remaining $10 million in authorized funds goes toward planning for a second project to add six gates to the northern end of EWR’s Terminal A. That project will be done in phases with an envisioned partial opening in 2030 and a full opening in 2032...
