Passenger Terminal World uncovers three of the biggest airport development projects set to open in the next year
Hollywood Burbank Airport, USA
Project cost: US$1.3bn
Completion: October 2026
Architect: Corgan
The new 31,112m2 Passenger Replacement Terminal, which is set to open in October 2026, will provide a modern space for passengers, with 14 new gates, local shops and restaurants, a centralized check-in and security checkpoint, streamlined baggage claim and curbside flows, a new airline support facility and a six-level parking garage with up to 6,637 parking spaces
Sunshine Coast Airport, Australia
Project cost: US$112M
Completion: 2027
Architect: Populous | Fentress Studios
The redevelopment project will see the terminal footprint almost double, from 6,100m2 to 11,750m2, with the domestic departure lounge increasing threefold, from 1,250m2 to 3,750m2.
Long Thanh International Airport, Vietnam
Project cost: US$16bn
Completion: Phase 1, 2026
Architect: Heerim Architects
The US$16bn project covers an area of approximately 5,000ha. Upon completion, it is expected to have capacity for up to 100 million passengers annually. The airport has been planned to reach 4F category in ICAO standards, meaning it will be able to handle the world’s largest aircraft.
