Woods Bagot - in conjunction with local Fijian firm Vitia Architects - was appointed by Airports Fiji Ltd to design a modern and vibrant international airport, while responding to the natural beauty and culture of the surrounding tropical island landscape.
The project focuses on the extension and redevelopment of the international departures building and the interior design of the international departures and arrivals areas. The design anticipates further growth in passenger numbers - by 2030 - by providing the option to incorporate self-serve check-in.
The materials and textures used in the design delivery strongly reference Fijian crafts and artefacts, providing users with a sense of local culture.
