The airport acts as one of the principle economic generators for the region
Farnborough Airport has shared plans to expand weekend operations with the aim of supporting the "long-term demand for flights" in the region.
Details of these plans were expanded on recently when Rushmoor Borough Council announced that it had received a request for an environmental impact assessment (EIA) scoping, a document that is part of the process of determining the main environmental issues that a future planning application for expanding services could have.
Plans to expand the airport's airspace were given the go ahead by Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in 2018 despite concerns at the time that it would lead to an "increase in noise" in the area.
Rushmoor Borough Council (RBC) explained that this future application is expected to seek planning permission to increase non-weekday aircraft movements at the airport within the current limit of 50,000 aircraft movements per annum.
