Mexico's infrastructure, communications and transportation ministry (SICT) plans to expand and improve 62 airports by 2030, with combined public and private investment of 127bn pesos (approximately US$6.6bn).

This year, 33.7bn pesos will be allocated to the projects, communications and transportation undersecretary Tania Carro said at the opening of the 4th national transportation infrastructure forum on Thursday.

Of the 62 airport projects, 13 will be carried out by the defense ministry and nine by the navy ministry during the current administration that ends in 2030, according to Carro.

The official said airport operator OMA will carry out another 13 projects, including the one serving Monterrey; Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico will be responsible for another 12; Asur will work on nine, including Cancún international airport; ASA will take on four projects (two in partnership with state governments); and Grupo Aeroportuario Turístico Mexicano another two.
