Melbourne Airport’s third runway has moved into the next phase of development, with initial construction works about to begin and community consultation for the Noise Amelioration Plan underway.

Early and preliminary works will commence this month, with changed traffic conditions on Sunbury Road expected from late September as part of upgrades to improve traffic flow and safety. These works are in preparation for construction of the runway, and will include road widening and the installation of a temporary intersection and traffic lights at the north of the airport between the Wildwood Rd and Oaklands Rd roundabouts. These works will take around 12 months to complete.

The third runway is scheduled to open in 2031 and will support 37,000 additional jobs by 2046, boost tourism, provide choice for travellers and enable continued exports for Victorian producers.
