In celebration of her 10th anniversary at Melbourne Airport, CEO Lorie Argus recounts her impressive aviation career and divulges the inner workings of her A$10bn capital investment plan.
What are the biggest projects you're investing in right now?
Primarily, we're building an A$500m new baggage system and A$4.5bn of proposed terminal expansions to bring out the buildings, expand them into the landside precinct and double the footprint of the international terminal.
We're also building a large, elevated road system. Right now, we have one loop road that comes in and out of the airport. It's a big pain point for travellers because it's very congested.
On top of this, we've recently had our A$3bn third runway approved. This should help provide the much-needed capacity to support the Melbourne-Sydney route, which is the fourth-busiest route in the world.
