A new arrivals facility at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) has opened to passengers after the completion of Phase 1 of a planned £100M terminal expansion.
The 9,500m2 extension, which began being delivered in September 2023 and was finished in June this year, adds a dedicated baggage reclaim area, a secure passport control zone, increased seating with panoramic runway views, multiple food and drink outlets and two premium passenger lounges. The new space began welcoming travellers this summer.
Property and construction consultancy Edge led project, programme and cost management for the first phase, while Farrans Construction was the lead contractor.
Work now moves on to Phase 2, which involves refurbishing the airport’s original terminal building, first opened in 1968, and constructing connecting infrastructure between key terminal areas. Unlike the landside-focused first phase, this stage must be delivered within a live operational environment and is being staged to minimise disruption during busy periods. It will also be delivered by Farrans.
