The King Salman International Airport (KSIA) project was officially launched last year by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), a key driver of Saudi Vision 2030 - a national strategy to diversify the economy and establish Saudi Arabia as a global leader.
KSIA is one of several large infrastructure developments underway as part of this strategy and will support the city's hosting of Expo 2030 Riyadh and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The project aims to increase the airport's capacity from 37 million in 2024 to roughly 100 million by 2030, to accommodated the influx of visitors expected for major events. Beyond that, the plan is to continue expanding in line with demand, ultimately reaching a total capacity of at least 185 million.
