The £440M New Bodø Airport project in Northern Norway aims to set a precedent in terms of how contractual mechanisms and technology could be used to ensure cost-effective and on-time delivery.
The investment decision for the new airport was taken in 2022. Avinor project director Paul Torgersen says the total cost of the project is 6bn NOK (£440M), with £240M to be spent on infrastructure and the rest on buildings. The government is providing £360M, while the rest will be provided by Avinor, which will sell the existing airport site to the municipality – making the municipality another funding partner. The municipality will buy today’s airport area for approximately £72M.
Avinor appointed Cowi as engineering consultant and Sweden-headquartered Peab as the main contractor for the infrastructure works.
