Air traffic is considered to be particularly harmful to the climate due to its high-altitude emissions. The situation is somewhat different for airports. It is easier to make their operations climate-neutral. What is actually happening.
For some time now, the German airports that make up the ADV have been pursuing a major common goal. Within seven years, a 65% reduction in CO₂ emissions is to be achieved, with climate neutrality finally being achieved 15 years later, in 2045. At the top of the agenda for the 2030 milestone is the promotion of renewable energy. And a lot is happening in this area.
The Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) shows whether airports are already (relatively) climate-friendly. It is a certification process developed specifically for airports to measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The first step is to determine the current carbon footprint. Reduction targets are then set and monitored.
