The gloves came off in the airport expansion battle today when Gatwick made an official complaint about Heathrow allegedly “faking” grassroots support.
Gatwick said that “Back Heathrow” campaign, which is funded by the west London airport, is posing as community group.
Its polling and public statements should be treated with “strong scepticism” said Gatwick chair Sir Roy McNulty in a letter to the boss of the Government’s Airports Commission.
Gatwick accused Back Heathrow of “scaremongering” and “setting up the entirely false choice between expansion and closure”.
