The Government did not assess emissions other than CO2 that account for “roughly two-thirds of aviation’s historical climate impacts” when it gave consent for expansion at Gatwick Airport, the High Court has been told.
Peter Barclay, who is the chairman of the Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign, along with campaign group Communities against Gatwick Noise Emissions (Cagne), is taking legal action against the Department for Transport (DFT) over the decision of Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander in September to approve plans for redevelopment.
The scheme would see the West Sussex airport move its existing northern runway 12 metres further north to accommodate more traffic.
