Gatwick: Emis­sions data at heart of air­port expan­sion court action

The Gov­ern­ment did not assess emis­sions other than CO2 that account for “roughly two-thirds of avi­ation’s his­tor­ical cli­mate impacts” when it gave con­sent for expan­sion at Gatwick Air­port, the High Court has been told.

Peter Barclay, who is the chair­man of the Gatwick Area Con­ser­va­tion Cam­paign, along with cam­paign group Com­munit­ies against Gatwick Noise Emis­sions (Cagne), is tak­ing legal action against the Depart­ment for Trans­port (DFT) over the decision of Trans­port Sec­ret­ary Heidi Alex­an­der in Septem­ber to approve plans for redevel­op­ment.

The scheme would see the West Sus­sex air­port move its exist­ing north­ern run­way 12 metres fur­ther north to accom­mod­ate more traffic.
