London Gatwick has become the first airport in the world to secure PAS 2080:2023 certification for carbon management in buildings and infrastructure.

Published by the British Standards Institution (BSI), PAS 2080 is a framework that requires organisations to consider and reduce carbon across an asset’s whole lifecycle, from planning and design through construction to operation. It places emphasis on collaborative working and decision‑making that drives more efficient, lower‑carbon solutions on capital projects.

Gatwick believes this win could influence how the aviation sector approaches low‑carbon expansion.

The airport said the certification followed nearly two years of work to embed carbon management across its construction activities, including changes to procurement and supply‑chain engagement and adjustments to project decision processes. An independent audit by BSI confirmed the airport met the requirements of the 2023 standard.
