The Navi Mumbai International Airport, which began construction in August 2021, is expected to be operational by early 2025.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport witnessed its first commercial aircraft landing on Sunday. As per sources, an Indigo A320 aircraft took off from the Mumbai airport and land at the newly made run 08/26 runway of the Navi Mumbai airport.
In fact, according to sources from the Air Traffic Control in Mumbai, the plane is likely to land again again the next day, considering that this airport has parallel runways. The landing was part of a trial testing programme. According to sources, the landing approach was managed by the Mumbai Air Traffic Control. Once the plane was within 5 nautical miles and at a height of 1,500 feet, the approach was handed over to the Navi Mumbai ATC tower, which will provide landing directions to the aircraft.
Earlier, Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited was seeking a vendor to supply aviation turbine fuel (JET A-1) for testing purposes at the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). It had issued a request for proposal to invite bids from vendors authorised by the Government of India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to distribute and sell aviation turbine fuel in the country.
The selected vendor will play a crucial role in supporting the airport’s operational readiness by providing fuel for essential testing at the airport’s fuel farm. In addition to the fuel supply tender, NMIA had also completed testing of the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system, a vital component of the airport’s aeronautical ground lighting.
