Julian Turner

London City Airport was recently awarded Level 3+ (Neutrality) status from the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme in recognition of its efforts to cut emissions in every facet of its business. JULIAN TURNER talks to the airport’s head of environment and technical operations, TESSA SIMPSON.

More than 60% of the waste generated at the airport is recycled and we support local biodiversity projects...[airlines] we try to incentivise them to operate the newest, quietest, cleanest aircraft.

Carbon neutrality is focused on our own business emissions, those that we have direct control over; that doesn’t include aircraft, service access, or transport to and from the airport, for example. In the context of the ACA scheme, carbon neutrality means offsetting total emissions to zero.
