Department for Transport (DfT) has said that, despite Heathrow saying in 2018 it would shut from the failure of one substation, it is ultimately Heathrow’s responsibility to have suitable resilience plans in place.

Cross-party MPs on the committee, which is chaired by Ruth Cadbury, criticised Heathrow and the electricity networks for failing to act quickly enough to restore power at the airport following the incident.

Two reports into the incident have been ordered; energy secretary Ed Miliband commissioned the National Energy System Operator (Neso) to look into it, while Heathrow Airport Ltd has itself ordered a review of its “internal resilience”.
