The U.S. Senate broke through a stalemate and reached an agreement to end the record 40-day government shutdown. The continuing resolution (CR), approved by the House and signed by President Trump, extends funding for federal agencies through January 30, 2026.
It includes three FY 2026 appropriations bills for agriculture, the legislative branch, and military construction/veterans.
The most significant impact of the shutdown was on air travel, with air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers working without pay, leading the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to require airlines to reduce service. With the CR in place, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy has stated that it will take time for airlines to return to full operational service and that current flight reductions will remain at 6%.
