Bristol Airport is planning to create a new gate to it can board more flights at once.
The international airport, located in North Somerset, submitted a consultation request to North Somerset Council for a plan to create a new gate under permitted development rights. The airport plans to divide gate 16 into two gates, with a new staircase and lift, so that it can be used to board two flights simultaneously.
A statement submitted by the airport's planners said: "This proposal seeks to split the existing Gate 16 in half by using barriers so two flights can be boarded simultaneously from this gate. Passengers from one flight would move, as they currently do, along the corridor into the gate through a reconfigured entrance door. Passengers from the second flight would queue through the corridor and enter the new gate area via a new internal door to the south. The proposals include the addition of a new staircase and customer lift."
"The creation of an additional gate will help in delivering a seamless customer experience for passengers and airlines by reducing the risk of delay and ensuring on time performance. It will also reduce the risk of mis-tracked passengers by maintaining a separation between flights departing simultaneously."
