Premier Doug Ford’s plan to take over Toronto’s Billy Bishop airport and allow jets at the downtown island runway is drawing criticism from residents and experts who warn of increased noise and pollution in Canada’s most densely populated urban area.

Ford says he will expropriate part of the airport land from the city to expand operations and allow jet aircraft to use the facility. The airport currently only allows turboprop planes, which are smaller and carry fewer passengers.
