Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is set to undergo a major upgrade with the introduction of a new elevated taxiway. This upgrade for Bengaluru Airport is scheduled to begin construction in early 2025. It will be completed within three years after construction begins. The project aims to improve aircraft movement and significantly reduce waiting times.

According to a Moneycontrol report, the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates and manages the airport, mentioned that the design for the western cross-field taxiway is nearly finalized, and discussions with contractors are ongoing. Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer of BIAL, said, "Work is expected to begin in early 2025, with operations (on the new elevated taxiway) planned to commence within 36 months," as quoted by Moneycontrol.

The new taxiway, which spans approximately 1.4 kilometers, features two parallel paths connecting the existing north and south runways. This upgrade will accommodate larger aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777, the report added.
