Welcome

Welcome to the latest edition of the BAG Update in 2023!

I would like to start with a big thank you – to everyone across our membership including all guests, stakeholders, and government representatives who attended the BAG New Year Dinner 2023 last week and made it a great success. BAG hosted over 400 guests at the Brewery in London with everyone coming together as a community to celebrate the start of once again a thriving industry.
A special thanks to Rachel Gardner-Poole, Chief Operating Officer at the Connected Places Catapult, who delivered our key note speaking about the importance of diversity and collaboration to grow innovation in the sector and what everyone can do to support this ambition. It was fantastic to also once again welcome Aerobility, BAG’s long standing charity on the evening, and collected over £5,000 in donations for this wonderful cause.  BAG would also like to thank our sponsors Bechtel
, Costain, Gardiner & Theobald LLP and Wise Technical. Finally, you can view and download the full BAG New Year Dinner booklet on our website which includes the guest list and  where you can also find a link to download all pictures taken by our professional photographer.

Earlier in January 2023 BAG reached out to its membership with a call for volunteers for all of BAG’s Working Group for active and diverse involvement and to identify how BAG members can get engaged across BAG’s various activities and groups in 2023 and to highlight BAG’s inclusive approach to participation in those groups. If you are still considering, please find the full details including Terms of Reference and how to join the BAG Working Groups on the BAG websiteplease register your interest asap / latest by 3 February 2023.

As such we are looking to grow our BAG Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Group and looking for nominations of individuals from BAG member companies who wish to join - who have a professional interest in the topic as well as expertise and can demonstrate professional competence. Candidates should ideally hold the brief for Diversity and Inclusion within their respective companies. More info on how you can either nominate yourself or indeed a colleague can be found on the
BAG website. Please note the deadline for all WG nominations is 3 February 2023.

BAG was delighted to meet with Baroness Vere, our Aviation Minister, a couple of weeks ago, where we once again pressed the importance of close collaboration with the industry supply chain to ensure that we can plan for the capacity and capability needed to deliver for UK clients AND to maintain our world leading expertise in the era of transition that lies ahead.

We also actively participated in the last 2 weeks at the latest meetings of various groups including the Jet Zero Council Zero Emissions Flight Delivery Group and Infrastructure Subgroup, as well as the Zero Emissions Flight Infrastructure Standards Advisory Group and a number of Sustainable Aviation groups to represent the wider aviation infrastructure supply chain.

Looking ahead, the BAG Regions are hosting their first meetings of the year: The BAG Northern Ireland Region and the BAG Scottish Region are hosting for the first time a joint virtual meeting on 9 February 2023 welcoming guests speakers Andy Smith, Head of Sustainability Strategy from Loganair Limited looking at Regional Connectivity and Chris Horner, Projects Director providing an overview and update on Belfast International Airport. The BAG Northern Region are hosting their first meeting of the year on 1 February 2023 (hybrid, online / Manchester) and are delighted to welcome Brad Miller, Managing Director, UK & EMEA Ferrovial Airports | Vertiports who will provide an overview on Urban Air Mobility, an investors perspective and Matthew Baines, Delivery Director Airports & Airfield, MAG who will provide an insightful presentation on The future of infrastructure development at MAG (Airports Group). Sign up today via the BAG website under Special Interest Groups and Regions.

Today, the BAG Board held its first monthly Board call for 2023 to review status on all BAG activities for the year. We are looking forward to an exciting and busy year ahead and welcoming you to one of our events or meetings soon.

Sponsor the BAG Stand at PTE 2023! *Deadline 1 February 2023-Book your stand Now!*

The British Aviation Group shall be returning to RAI, Amsterdam in March 2023, providing BAG members the opportunity to exhibit by sponsoring the BAG Stand at the increasingly popular Passenger Terminal Expo (PTE). Over the years the BAG stand at PTE has grown considerably, becoming one of the main networking hubs for the aviation industry to meet and do business. This is due to our BAG member companies sponsoring the stand and drawing in the interest and key players in the industry.
The show in 2022 saw over 10,000 visitors from over 130 countries attend and spans across 19,000 sqm of space - making this one of the biggest airport shows in the aviation event calendar.  The event attracts over 1,900 senior airport, airline, aviation authority, government and related business executives from all over the world.

The BAG Sponsorship stand package is one of the most affordable and effective ways to exhibit at this world class. The location for 2023 means companies will benefit from a very visible presence at the show due to our stand location.  The package is sold to the BAG members only, which will ensure our members receive the most exclusive service.

For £1,990, the BAG Sponsorship Stand Package includes:

  • Refreshments available to BAG sponsors and their guests during live show days
  • Company logo on sponsors wall
  • 1 box of company literature displayed on the shared literature racks of the BAG stand
  • Tables and chairs available for ad hoc meetings on the stand. You can book to use these for short meetings as part of the package either in advance or at the event (subject to availability). The meeting point facilities are shared with several other BAG PTE sponsors
  • A dedicated Event Manager who will manage and coordinate your presence both pre-event and whilst onsite at the event
  • A truly cost-effective way to promote your company with a strong brand presence

Engagement Opportunities in BAG Working Groups - please indicate your interest by 3 February 2023

Further to the BAG Update in December, the BAG Board met in December 2022, in which we reviewed BAG Strategic Priorities for 2023. Core to our discussion were the continued focus on sustainability, the return to business growth in the aviation sector and the importance of equipment supplier member engagement to progress on all fronts.  We also reconfirmed that the BAG Working Groups would be key in the delivery of the plans for how the Priorities would be achieved, and BAG’s KPI’s delivered. The BAG Working Groups are now once again opened up to the wider membership for active and diverse involvement.

We would welcome your wider company’s involvement in all of BAG activities – be it the BAG Board, BAG’s Special Interest Groups, BAG’s Regions or indeed the BAG Working Groups. For further information and how to get involved please click here.

This document focuses on two key topics:
- What’s happening at UK airports
- What’s happing in the International markets, particularly in the priority markets we set for this year in discussion with DIT. Based on what we learn should we be resetting those priorities or focussing on other opportunities
