Last week, the Aviation: Benefits Beyond Borders report was released during the ICAO Chicago Convention 80th Anniversary celebrations. The report demonstrates aviation’s critical role in powering economies and connecting communities worldwide. Here are some of the key findings:
- 4.4 billion passengers travelled by air in 2023 connecting people, cultures and businesses via 67,300 routes served by 1,138 commercial airlines and 4,072 airports.
- Civil aviation supports 86.5 million jobs globally and contributes $4.1 trillion in economic impact – 3.9% of global GDP.
- Nearly 61.4 million tonnes of cargo carried by air represented 33% of global trade by value – approximately $8 trillion in goods.
